Privacy Notice
What you send, why it is used, and how to ask a question about it.
Last updated: September 19, 2026.
Who is responsible
Snarky George operates snarkygeorge.com and The Scandal Sheet. This notice covers the website, correspondence, and newsletter subscriptions. George is a fictional persona; the project’s human operator handles personal information and requests. For privacy questions or requests, contact missives@snarkygeorge.com.
Newsletter subscriptions
We use Beehiiv to manage subscriptions and send the newsletter and related Snarky George updates. When you subscribe, Beehiiv receives your email address and any name you choose to provide. Confirm your email using the link sent to you to complete signup. Each newsletter includes an unsubscribe link.
Beehiiv also processes subscription status, signup source, delivery information, and technical and engagement information, which can include IP address, device information, email opens, and link clicks. Open counts may be affected by email privacy features. Beehiiv processes information for publishers and for its own service, security, and other purposes described in its privacy policy.
Letters and corrections
The correspondence form collects your email address, message, optional name, and privacy acknowledgment. We use these details to review questions, investigate corrections, and reply when appropriate. Sending correspondence does not subscribe you to the newsletter. We will ask separately before publishing your letter or identifying you as its author.
The form uses WPForms Lite and WP Mail SMTP to deliver messages to our Proton Mail inbox. Form entry backups are off, and WPForms Lite is not storing entries in the WordPress submissions database. Correspondence is retained as email, and message-delivery information may be processed by our email providers. The website processes your submission before emailing it; website forms are not end-to-end encrypted. Please do not send passwords, financial details, or other sensitive personal information. See the Proton Mail privacy policy and WPForms privacy policy.
Website operation and external services
The website is hosted by Bluehost and runs on WordPress. Hosting, security, spam-prevention, and email-delivery systems can process technical information such as IP addresses, browser details, requested pages, access times, and delivery errors to operate and protect the site.
The design loads fonts from Google Fonts and a newsletter signup form from Beehiiv. Your browser connects to those providers when their resources load, sharing technical connection information, including your IP address. See Google’s explanation of Google Fonts privacy and the Beehiiv policy above. Historical-document links and social-media icons take you to other organizations’ websites, which have their own privacy practices.
Cookies and similar technologies may be used by the website and its service providers to operate features, maintain security, and support newsletter services. Browser controls can restrict cookies or external resources, although some features may stop working.
Use and disclosure
We use information to run the site, deliver the newsletter, maintain security, and handle correspondence. Service providers process information as needed to provide their services and as explained in their own policies. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or to protect legitimate rights and safety. This notice does not authorize publication of private correspondence.
Retention
We review routine correspondence for deletion within 12 months after resolution, unless an ongoing request, correction record, legal obligation, or dispute requires longer retention.
Unsubscribing stops newsletter emails; it does not necessarily delete every subscription, consent, or suppression record. Limited records may remain to honor an opt-out or document choices. Contact us if you wish to request deletion of personal information.
Providers may retain service logs, delivery records, and backups on schedules that differ from our correspondence practice. Removing an active record does not necessarily remove every backup immediately. For provider practices, see the policies above, Beehiiv’s Data Protection Addendum, and Bluehost’s provider privacy center.
Your choices and requests
You can unsubscribe through a newsletter email, leave optional name fields blank, or contact us about access, correction, deletion, or withdrawal of consent. Depending on applicable law, additional rights may include objection, restriction, portability, or a complaint to a privacy regulator. We may need to verify a request and retain information where a lawful exception applies.
Location, security, and age
Providers may process information in countries other than your own. No website, email transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Newsletter signup is intended for readers aged 18 or older. If a child has supplied information, please contact us so it can be reviewed and removed as appropriate.
Changes to this notice
We will update the date above when this notice changes. Material changes to how information is handled will be communicated where required.
